Apex is an Appalachian Basin based company with a focus on proven Marcellus and Utica horizontal well development. The Company has amassed a highly enviable acreage position in Southwestern Pennsylvania and looks to add projects in the tri-state area. 

In 2013, Apex Energy formed a strategic partnership with a major private equity fund. The initial objective of the partnership was to invest in oil and gas properties in the Appalachia Basin, with a primary focus on the Marcellus and Utica shales.  Since then, Apex has made numerous acquisitions, brought in additional investors, drilled and completed over 300,000 lateral feet, and divested core and non-core properties.  Apex's current primary investor is Carnelian Energy Capital.  Apex continues to actively develop its current leasehold and looks to acquire additional properties that fit its strategic objective. 

Apex, headquartered outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, has an executive management team led by Mark Rothenberg, Chief Executive Officer. Mark's career started as a petroleum engineer with Amoco Corporation working on various projects throughout the United States. Over the years he has worked on some of the most prolific unconventional natural gas and oil projects in the country. He relocated to Pittsburgh during the initial stages of the Marcellus Shale exploration programs.

The rest of the Apex team is made of a combination of local and relocated professionals. The local professionals have spent their entire career in the Appalachia Basin. They bring an important understanding of the local environment and valuable expertise in this rich and historic basin. Apex has also relocated professionals, bringing with them a wealth of knowledge and experience from other shale and unconventional reservoirs located throughout the United States.
